CHICAGO NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

As a Chicago newborn photographer, my focus is on capturing natural, timeless photos of your family in this precious season of life, and turning them into art on your walls or in your hands. I am based in Arlington Heights and photograph newborns right across the Chicago area, from the city out to the north and northwest suburbs — if you are up on the North Shore, see my Highland Park newborn photographer page. Sessions are unhurried, led entirely by your baby, and held either in your own home or in a studio near you.

YOUR CHICAGO NEWBORN SESSION, AT HOME OR IN A STUDIO

Most families choose one of two settings, and it comes down to the light you have at home, how far you want to travel with a days-old baby, and the look you are drawn to.

In your home, we use your nursery, your bed, your living room window. Nothing is staged, and the photos look like the place you actually brought your baby home to. Here is what in-home newborn photography looks like from start to finish.

If you would rather come to a studio, I work from several across Chicago and the suburbs, most recently in Long Grove, Ravenswood, Lakeview and Oak Park, and I book whichever is closest to you and available on your date. Studio sessions add a $50 fee.

WE PLAN YOUR SESSION AROUND YOUR LIGHT

Before we set a start time, I ask you to send me a few phone photos of your nursery, bedroom or living room in natural light, taken at different points in the day. That tells me when your home is at its best, and we build the session around that hour. It is the single biggest difference between photos that feel soft and bright and photos that do not.

WHEN TO BOOK, AND WHAT IF BABY COMES EARLY

The best time to book is while you are still pregnant. Most families reach out in the second or third trimester, and I hold your place around your due date rather than a fixed day.

Newborn sessions usually happen in the first couple of weeks, when babies are sleepiest and curliest. Babies arrive on their own schedule, and if yours comes early or late, or your birth does not go the way you planned, we simply move. I have photographed many babies outside that window, and in special situations, and the session still works beautifully.

PREFER THE FIRST 48 HOURS?

If you would rather document the very first hours than wait a couple of weeks, a Fresh 48 session happens at the hospital, wherever you deliver, in the day or two after birth. Some families book both. You can see how they work on my Chicago Fresh 48 photographer page.

SIBLINGS AND PETS ARE WELCOME

Big brothers and sisters are part of this story, and I can’t wait to meet them! We usually photograph siblings first, while attention spans are at their longest. Dogs are welcome too, and we do the pet portion early so they can settle afterwards.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once you book, I send a questionnaire so I can learn about your family and what you have in mind for the session. We will also plan what everyone wears, and you are welcome to bring your own pieces or borrow from my client wardrobe. Your private gallery arrives about two weeks after the session.
